Edward Padula studied drama at the University of Pennsylvania, at Westport Country Playhouse (where he served as stage manager), and at Yale University, where he staged the American premiere of Murder in the Cathedral. In 1938, he was the director of the Department of Television at NBC. He earned a Tony Award as the producer of the Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie.
