Hunter Bell earned an OBIE Award, a Drama League nomination, a GLAAD Media nomination, and a Tony nomination for Best Book of a Musical all for the original Broadway musical [title of show].

After decades of living and working in NYC, Hunter found his creative voice through his writing. His journey from performer to Tony-nominated writer has been packed with life lessons. Here he shares three insights as part of the “What I Wish I Knew” series.

  1. Trust your instincts to write authentically and from the heart.
  2. Authenticity and originality may take longer than you hope. The same is true about having other people see your work and appreciate it.
  3. You don’t need permission to create. We all have stories to tell and the right to tell them. Trust your voice. Have the courage to tell your stories. Don’t be afraid to make things and put them out into the world.

Hunter is a graduate and distinguished alumnus of Webster University’s Conservatory of Theatre Arts, a member of the Dramatists Guild, Writers Guild, Actors’ Equity, and a MacDowell Fellow. He serves on the Educational Theatre Foundation Board.
